Knowledge is defined by facts or skilled gained through experience or education. Life has a way of educating us in ways the classroom never could achieve. Education is valuable when it is valued by the individual. Most of us hated waking up and going to school. It was simply a check on the to do list. College was the lesser of two evils for me, but grad school was a deliberate decision. I don't think I valued my education until I made the choice to go back to school. School isn't the only avenue of learning. What new skills have you learned? What do you want to add to your toolkit? What knowledge do you have yet to gain? We live in an era when knowledge is at our fingertips. We can google anything. Ask alexa. We are fresh out of excuses to be ignorant.
"To attain knowledge, add things everyday. To attain wisdom, remove things every day.” -Lao Tzu
I've been watching Black Love and Red Table Talk. If you haven't had a chance to tune in, it's worth the time. There are so many jewels about parenting, love, life, and relationships. Someone said, "I've learned as much from my failures as I have from my successes. Maybe more." Someone else said, "there are lessons to be learned from your pain." I began to think that maybe we don't learn the lesson from our pain. Maybe we get caught up in cyclic and toxic relationships because they are comfortable. Maybe we enjoy being a victim because there is less responsibility in it. Maybe it's easier not to learn the lesson.
They say you learn something new every day. I can say that I really do learn something new every day. I learn new information. I learn about myself. I learn about my triggers and my limits. I learn to listen when my body speaks. I learn how others respond to me and how I respond in return. I learn to pay attention to everyone around me. What did you learn today? Pay attention. Every day is a new opportunity to learn to learn every minute of your life.
"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored." -Earl Nightingale
